Hi! I’m Andrea, and I am a Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for Astrophysics (MPA) in Garching bei München, Germany.
I work with observations taken with the most advanced facilities, in particular VLT/MUSE, XSHOOTER, FORS2, JWST/NIRSpec and NIRCam and HST, to discover more about galaxy evolution. In particular, I am interested in the high redshift Universe and in strong gravitational lensing.
You can find more about the projects I am working on in the research section. For a simplified version of my work, give a look at the My research for my grandparents section.

More about me

I grew up in the enchanting town of Verbania, nestled along the picturesque shores of Lake Maggiore in Italy. Situated approximately 100 kilometers to the northwest of Milan and just 40 kilometers from Locarno (Switzerland), Verbania provided the backdrop for my early education up to high school.
After that, I moved to Milan, where I completed my Bachelor and my Master's at the University of Milan, working on Strong Gravitational Lensing, supervised by Prof. Claudio Grillo.
In 2021, I started a PhD position in Astronomy at the Univesrity of Padua, supervised by Dr. Anita Zanella and co-supervised by Prof. Claudio Grillo (University of Milan) and Dr. Joël Vernet (ESO), on "Galaxy evolution through gravitational lensing", studying both the high redshift sources and the strong lensing deflectors.
During my PhD, I was awarded with a ESO Studentship and spent one year at ESO Garching, working with Joël Vernet on exploring the properties of the cirgumgalactic medium of distant galaxies.
I successfully defended my PhD thesis in December 2024 and, from February 2025, I started as a Research Fellow at MPA. Images: top: view of Verbania and Lake Maggiore.
